Flying Things and Squash Kisses

This is the main gate to Little Rock AF Base and displays the kind of plane Rob is learning to fly. Doesn't look like a Gulfsteam 5 to me.This creature visits the pond behind their house on a regular basis.
Here Mack is trying out squash and seems to like it.

Easter on Lake Agassiz

This picture was taken Easter morning near Fargo out of the car window at 75mph. It gives you an idea that there is still a lot of water in the area. Recrests are predicted for Fargo and GF this week. Pray that rain doesn't add to the flooding. At one time this flat top of land we call home was Lake Agassiz and from time to time it reverts to its past history.The sunrise was beautiful and I had to stop and take a picture. Terrific sunrise for Easter Sunday... He is risen indeed!

Happy Half Birthday!

Happy Half Year, Buddy! It is hard to believe how quickly Mack is growing but everyone tells us that kids at this age grow up so fast. Glad to hear Mack is getting into cereal and sweet potatoes. Won't be long before Bar-B-Que and beans.

Red Crests at 49.5 feet

A couple of summers ago brother Lou brought his son-in-law and grandson to the Air Force Base Friends and Neighbors Day. After the show we went down the the river to see the monument to our floods that was built after the record 1997 flood which Lou came to help clean up after. (The last few pictures on this blog were taken from the building in the background).From the bridge it looks pretty small but when you are next to it, it is pretty good sized.
It marks the various record heights the river has gotten in the last century with 1997 being the highest at 54 feet plus. Next was 1897 and this year we came in third highest at 49.5 feet. With the new dike one would not know anything was unusual... this is the first good test of the dikes since they were finished in about 2004.
This is what it looked like today from the sixth floor of the county building. Do you see the flood monument? It is to the left of cener and just poking up the last few feet.

Here is a better shot and the 1997 and 1897 marks are visible with this flood coming in third.

Here is the railroad bridge with Cabelas in the background. A man was arrested yesterday for crossing from E Grand Forks to Grand Forks on this bridge... duh!
