Where Did It Go?

Where did summer go?  Summer is short in the north and the first and last months at the lake can seem more like winter and fall... so that leaves about three months of summer weather.  Or as we like to say, summer is on the 4th of July.
Little wonder that the lake people take every opportunity to get out and enjoy it.  Last Sunday it was 92 degrees and Monday it was 45.  There isn't much of a transition between seasons.
We cannot help but miss the Grandkids when we walk down to the beach, since one of their favorite things to do at the lake is play in the sand.
These guys will hang around all winter though without the convenient  bath and drink.
Every year I try to mark the last day these little beauties show up for juice.  Each year it has been around September 15, and then they go on their long journey south to Central and South America.  And they don't even have a GPS.
The end of summer also marked the end of the seven month interim at First Baptist in Detroit Lakes, Mn.  Here a few of these friends joined us for lunch after church.  We will miss being with them each week as they have become very dear to us.
Our campground Safety Officer came and removed a couple of  "leaners" on our hill going to the lake.  I wanted them down for years as they looked dangerous but often the summer toys were down by the lake and in the winter the docks were pulled on shore.  So when Tom came to take them down, I was glad... and it improved our view of the lake!
We left lake country about a week before the trees hit their prime so I didn't get to see much color.  The wind has been bad too, so many trees skipped the beauty show and went right into winter drab.

I did catch a beautiful sunrise on the first day of fall... a great close to another wonderful summer at Eagle Lake!
