Dyess is Nice

We made the caravan drive with three cars to Dallas where we met our Son-in-law returning from a quick trip to process out of his assignment in Hawaii.  He was tired from the all night flight and quite "blue" about leaving Hawaii for the last time.
While we waited for his return we visited some old "haunts" in Dallas.  Here M is enjoying a cookie at the North Park Mall (Papa makes the rules when he is in charge).  Unlike many malls it has expanded and looks to be very prosperous in their 50th year.  Imagine it was only two years old when we first came to Dallas in 1968, just five years after JFK was assassinated.
These two are good travelers.  We used their walkie talkies to communicate between the three cars on the trip from Little Rock.  Man, is Interstate 20 busy.
We stopped at DTS but because it was Monday nobody was around.  DTS does not have classes on Mondays.  It allows faculty to travel and speak on weekends and gives the students an extra day to recover.

Many buildings are under renovation including Chafer Chapel.  E enjoyed tossing her stuffed doll and catching it (most times).  She thought it was special that I took a picture when the "baby" was at it's highest point.
Oh, the memories.
The upper level of this duplex was home for our four years of seminary.  The porch was not glassed in then, and we came home from something after dark and found M's brother and sister waiting on the porch.  We hadn't expected them but they walked in and stayed out on the porch till we arrived.  Those were the days when we didn't even lock the front door!  Our dog was going nuts inside the house barking at the porch door, and when I opened the door to the porch (with a fireplace andiron in hand), I nearly fainted when two people stood up and greeted me!
The year I taught at DTS the left half of this duplex was home.  CM was only four and the old couple next door doted on her.  Spoiled her rotten.  Still hasn't recovered.
Tutu and grandson with his mouth full take a break at the Mall.
We did make it to Dyess AFB in Abilene and while R and C looked for housing we stayed with the kids.  Here M is just "hanging out."
E is trying out the slide.  When you are good at sliding, you don't need to see where you are going.  Note the garb.  It was cold, for Texas.
This doesn't look like the fighters of Hickam.  This B-1 just returned from a mission and was practicing a few touch and go's.  Glad to have the family back in the mainland though it takes much longer to drive to Abilene than it did to fly to Hawaii.
