Mack's Place
The neighbors got a new washer and dryer so I took the opportunity to make Mack a little house.
We wondered what his reaction would be but he had no hesitation to go and explore his new pad.
Once he got in there were giggles and laughter coming from this little excited boy.
We even got his rocking chair inside with a book so he can relax and read.
Who needs expensive toys anyway?

Enjoy it while you can!
To say that Mack was a hit with Libby and her neighbor girls is an understatement. Here they are trying to get Mack to choose them for a hug over their sisters. 
Mack would back up away from them and then run and give one of them a hug. The one with her arms out got the most hugs to the frustration of the sisters.

For the birds
Spring has arrived in Arkansas and here's proof. We've enjoyed some 70-80 degree days and a couple of thunderstorms.
This morning a flash of movement caught my eye and I looked to see our neighborhood hawk putting his finishing touches on a Mockingbird.
Other things aren't quite so dramatic as this Canada Goose putting his best side up.
This being the south, there are some scary critters... this one about three inches long. I imagine that he was heading to try out for an insurance commercial.
Since I can remember us Northerners have built houses and tried to get Bluebirds to nest in our yards and forests... without much luck. When I noticed they were around the neighborhood, I bought a house at the local Wal Mart and hung it on the house facing the pond. Within two days we had a nest... of sparrows. The house I bought could be easily cleaned out which I did. I had purchased a Bluebird house not a Sparrow house after all.
Soon a pair of Bluebirds and the sparrows were fighting over the low rent I was charging. I am happy to say, it appears the Bluebirds won out. Though very cautious, I was able to catch one leaving the house and...
... more promising, have seen furnishings being brought in.
I feel happy after all the years of trying to attract them up north, I have finally succeeded here in the south.
Of course, my favorite little bird of all is this guy with his big blue eyes!

Fun Things
Mack got a package in the mail today from Grandpa Slanger... his own tools! He was pretty excited to play with them all. Fortunately they are all plastic and one cannot do too much damage with a plastic hammer.
It is so much fun to see the expression of Mack as he talks with his Daddy on the computer. Here he is waving at him.
A couple of days ago a hawk was carrying a squirrel as he flew by the house. Today he stopped for a friendly visit. I don't have my bird books... but he is a pretty common one I think.
