Fire and Ice

As so often happens in one of the coldest nights, a fire broke out in a 12-plex.Thankfully no one was hurt but 12 families were displaced.

There are a couple of lessons to learn from it: 1)don't multi-task while you are fixing dinner; 2)make sure you have renters' insurance; and 3)have a plan of escape.

Ironically, though the fire occurred last week, there is still the piercing sound of a smoke alarm going off in the building. Imagine fighting this in below zero temps.

Our place shows a bit of snow that we have gotten. We need to use caution when backing out because you can't see the oncoming traffic.

"I see a hummingbird!"

At breakfast M said: "I see a hummingbird!"
Well, it is a little early for hummingbirds, even in Arkansas, but when I looked I saw he was looking at this hawk in the tree. He may not know his birds but at least he is interested in noticing them (like his Papa).

These guys were back and I missed their landing and take off.

North Rock or Little Dakota?

We woke up this am to this...Up north we would call this a couple of inches... but here it closed schools and the AF Base.

The boys soon found their way outside, but there were no mittens to be found for the Hawaii born boy.

So he got to wear his Daddy's.

Soon all the neighbors showed up and snowball fights and snowmen followed.

I think these are tears because he had to come in.

Some Local Culture

Son in law thought we needed some local culture. We arrived in Scott, Ark, to find a local theatre company making a short film called, "the Orderly."Here we are arriving... no, this was part of the set.

And here is Marilyn dressed in her finest.

This is the place where we found some local culture... Cotham's, home of the Hub Cap Burger. A place supposedly visited by George Bush, and of course, Bill Clinton.

What's more local than fried green tomatoes....

And to start the New Year, black-eyed peas?

Park and Ride

Since sleet and snow are predicted for this weekend, we decided to go to the park on the Air Base.

M got some exercise running the track, rolling on the ground and riding the slides with Momma.

While we "parked," Daddy rode in his plane...

And Ellie? Well, she just smiled.

Looking for a good caption or two

The geese in the pond got me to thinking of some different captions I could give their pictures because of their antics today.

Coming from North Dakota, how about "Twin Buttes" for these two?

I couldn't help but thinking this one is saying: "What did you say, Dear?"

Just one more: "How geese in the South go south." Sorry...

Ellie encounters Mack

Most of the time Mack and Ellie live their separate lives only crossing paths when careful watch is taking place by nervous adults.

Ellie does just fine all by herself.... but sometimes Big Brother is in the neighborhood and her expression shows it. Here he had just put part of his Potato Head on Ellie's head.

But most of the time with careful supervision Ellie really does like Big Brother around...

And Big Brother loves his little sister too.
