Eagle Lake Opening - 2016

We opened up our lake place this past week and the loons are back and noisy.

On the way to Bemidji we saw this nest right next to the road.  A handy little lane allowed me to pull over and take a few shots... with my camera.

He paid no attention to me, I'm sure because of the noisy road.  Our eagles at the camp site are much more flighty.

I'm sure the people bloggers are grumbling again...two blogs with birds... oy. 

I blame it on the lack of such birds in Iowa when I was growing up.  Not sure if they are around there now or not. 

Our neighbors put their dock in which is a sure sign that fishing season is close to opening.   And even though it is not a good picture, it is of people.

We have been hearing of fires in Canada and the smoke they are sending our way.  The hazy sunrise is proof.  And I thought Canada was our good neighbor to the North; but they send smoke in the summer and Alberta Clippers in the winter. Not like a good neighbor.

Spring is Here

Spring is here, as the neighbor's Forsythia shouts from across the street.

Some migrants have shown up like this Yellow-rumped Warbler sometimes called "Butter-butts."

These common visitors are here in mass, for now.  I say that because the  Cooper's Hawk is in the neighborhood.

This White-throated Sparrow shows up in bunches and then they are gone.

One of my favorites is this Cedar Waxwing.  What a beauty but is camera shy.

This Northern Flicker has such beautiful variety of feathers.  Notice his back in contrast with the breast feathers and the red crown and black collar.  

Like most birds there is a pecking order and Robins wait their turn when Flicker shows up.

This male House Finch is a year-round visitor but seems especially red during mating season.  I dedicate this blog to Jan who would like people pictures rather than birds.
