Tucson to Little Rock

Leaving the warmer temps of Tucson, we headed east to Dallas via Midland, Texas, where I preached several times and even got caught in a snow storm when I was teaching at DTS.These boulders were the haunt of native American Indian, Cochise.
I took this out the window at 70mph which increased to 80 in west Texas. I have heard stories about west Texas... all true.... a lot of nothing...
We arrived in Dallas after a 10 inch plus snow! I thought the south was supposed to be warmer. Thousands were out of power and many cars were in the ditch. This gal decided to make a sled out of cardboard outside our hotel in Fort Worth. We had a fun visit with Don and Jeannie over the weekend and heard their new preacher... really a great communicator!
We arrived in LR just in time to have a chat with Daddy on the computer.
The whole family got in on the event.
Of course Tutu had to get here hands on Mack and read him a story. We thank the Lord for a safe trip over many miles.

Favorite Place

Today we went on a hike in Sabino Canyon...one of our favoriite places. Here are a few pictures from the canyon.

There has been quite a bit of rain in Tucson so the river was full.

A beautiful bird similar to a cardinal was agreeable for posing.
Another gorgeous day in Tucson.

Super Sunday

Super Sunday began as a rainy day. We spent much of it visiting M's mom at her assisted living home and eating Sunday dinner with her. It was actually pretty good.We did manage to see a bit of the mountains when the rain cleared.
It turned out to be a beautiful day.
Even got to watch the super bowl with M's nephew and family.
Except for the colts losing, it was about as nice a day as one can get.
Maybe one could say it was a "super sunday!"

Trip to Ghost Ranch and Echo Canyon...echo canyon.

Today we drove a couple of hours north to visit Ghost Ranch and Echo Canyon. What would this blog be without a visit from a bald eagle? Marilyn spotted it on the hillside along with......this four footed creature... a coyote.

Yes, Ghost Ranch was a ranch at one time but was given to the PCA for a conference grounds. It was also a home for artist Georgia O'keefe.
This is chimney rock which I waited and waited for the sun to shine upon, but no luck.
Now everyone yell "Hello" at the top of your lungs... did you hear an echo? You should of cuz you are in Echo Canyon.
The snow of yesterday was sticking around on these upper rocks.
Here is Chimney Rock again on the way home and still little sun.
Nearer to Santa Fe, the sun did shine a bit.
These pictures don't do justice to the beauty of these cliffs.
This was my favorite peak. I named it pulpit rock cuz it looks like a pulpit... sorta....maybe not.
There is a story behind this traveling red toaster, but it will have to wait for another time.

Morning walk in Santa Fe

Thursday morning dawned very chilly, but I got dressed and went for a walk. This thrush had beaten me up and was looking for breakfast on this cholla cactus. The snow covered everything and lots of tracks in the arroyo showed signs of critters.
I considered sitting down and taking it all in but thought better of it.I didn't bring boots but it was my hands that were freezing.
But let me end with this note of encouragement... there are huge numbers of robins around so I did some calculating. Since we are about 1400 miles from GF and figuring they fly north about 20 miles a day, that means they should be arriving there in about 70 days... around April 15 so take heart, spring is coming!

Santa Fe in the snow

Those of us from the north recognize this vehicle coming down the street. Snow greeted us on Wednesday after our arrival on Tuesday to see cousin Pat.We spent the day walking from warm place to warm place.... like the dining room of the historic La Fonda Hotel.
The forecast was for flurries but we got more than that and shops and businesses closed early.
Even the famous Shed was mostly deserted.
The Native American vendors were few and freezing.
I walked to the RC Basilica which has been around for at least four hundred of years.
Even the statuaries seemed cold.
Inside was beautiful and warm having undergone a recent interior renovation.
Gorgeous stained glass windows caught what sun there was and by the time I left I was warm again. Guess Santa Fe isn't far enough south for this northerner.
