Another Day in Arkansas

When I wake up and look outside, I usually see this guy hunting for his breakfast. The fall colors make early morning a great time for picture taking.I happened to snap a picture of him splashing his head under water (see splash) and also got one right after before he swallowed this fish in his beak. I wished I had gotten one more shot of the fish going down that long neck.
Also this beautiful Bluebird is a regular in the back yard searching for insects on the lawn.
Carrie suggested we take in some local culture, so we did and it was good... french fries, hush puppies, and catfish. Real southern livin'.
We stopped at a place called The Old Mill for some snapshots before supper.
Built in the early thirties it is a replica of a working mill of days gone by.
Hard to know which shot to take as it was really a beautiful place for picture taking.
Some locals always have to get in the picture.
This is my favorite.

Mack seems to have enjoyed it too.
Carrie discovered that by turning over one of her side tables Mack could enjoy pushing it around the furniture. He seems to be developing balance and loves pushing this thing through the house.
Mack in the morning....
Mack and Daddy share a laugh.
Mack in his PJ's is waving goodbye... time to go.

Big Eyes

We closed up for the winter but were having some of our nicest summer weather. Here we are on our last trip around the lake before putting the kayak away.We drove to MSP, Iowa for overnight and saw Norm and Jan and Lou and Pat, and finished to Little Rock on Saturday. Wish I could have flown like this critter.
This Blue Heron is stalking the pond behind the home of Rob and Carrie.
They have big eyes and this one seems a bit near-sighted as he leans over to get a closer look.
Nothing near-sighted about this guy when he is after his supper. We picked him up and his parents of course, on Sunday evening, after their week in Colorado celebrating Rob's tenth anniversary from graduating at the AF Academy.
I like his big eyes but he was not too sure who those old-folks were. He has really stretched out and is very blond.

Fall is coming to Terry Town

We have seen it coming for quite awhile. Fall is arriving in stages.... some trees are beautiful and even losing leaves, while others haven't started their fall colors. The Lake looks pretty deserted these weeks.
The Sandhill Cranes are getting ready to leave and are building up their reserves from the fields.
Even the native birds from the area are putting on some weight at the Bar-B-Que supper.
Raymond, the Chick-a-dee, won't leave for the winter but still has a love for sunflower seeds.
Our neighbors joined us for a beautiful fall picnic in mid September.
Only trouble with fall is what comes next...

Deer Friends

The other night our neighbors went with us to see if we could find any deer. We found over a hundred. Some like this fawn alone with its mother, but many in groups in open fields by the scores. Fun. And some people shoot bambi... tsk tsk.
