Mack'n'Ellie's Pond
Behind the house in Arkansas Land, is a pond I have renamed "Macknellie's Pond." All sorts of critters live in or nearby the pond including coyote, deer, snakes, fish, and of course a great variety of birds... two of the largest birds are the Great Blue Heron...
and the Great White Egret. Both of these birds have been renamed by the two-year old in the house as "Big Bird." Usually as the pictures show they arrive and feed separately... not at the same time. .. "Nooo, not!" quoting the same two-year old.
But this morning something unusual happened.... they both decided to get breakfast at Macknellie's Pond at the same time.
The pond certainly is big enough for both to grab a bite together, but let's just say, they don't always see "eye to eye."
"Me thinks a new day hath dawned," I said in my best King James English.
"But woe is me," I spoke too soon as you can tell. Macknellie's Pond was not big enough for the two of them and soon "feathers began to fly," not literally but using an old figure of speech.
As soon as one would find a good fishing hole the other would fly near and scare off the other one. Macknellie's Pond seemingly could not hold both white and blue "Big Birds" at the same time.
And before long, they came back and took their separate turns at getting something for breakfast.
A new day hadn't dawned after all... just the same old one. One wonders if perhaps one Big Bird was a Republican and one was a Democrat. I'll let you figure out which is which.
But inside the house, away from Macknellie's Pond, the same lessons were being reinforced. Whether we have light hair or dark hair, whether we are Big Brother or Little Sister, we all have to learn to love each other and get along whether in Macknellie's Pond or in our house in the Natural State in Arkansas Land.

Early Morning Frolic
It is amazing the wildlife that shows up in the back yard here. The other morning I saw a splash in the pond and a Kingfisher flew out of the water into the tree.
The same morning we saw what we thought was a dog but it turned out to be a coyote. There were two of them, but one was camera shy.
Then this morning we heard Geese and two deer came out of the woods and scared them into the pond.
The two of them began to frolic in the yard; jumping and kicking like two year olds... hmmm.

The End of a Perfect Day
The day started here before the sun peaked over the eastern sky with an early morning drive to the hospital.
The skies were mostly clear and the temperature was crisp.
The sun reflected off the pond and on to the trees in their autumn best.
Mack occupied himself with preparing for the arrival of Baby Sister by reading to Oscar, and wearing his Big Brother tee shirt.

Things to do while waiting....
Waiting is never fun but there are some fun things to do while waiting. Like... watching the Thunderbirds from our back yard.
Going down a slide designed for boys that are 5 and up....
Watching big hawks take off from our willow tree...
